You may come wanting to talk, maybe not. You may know why you feel as you do, maybe not. It doesn’t matter. My job is to listen and observe. Learn from you where you react to life and where you respond. That is, where you are in control and have the skills to manage the situation and where you don’t.
The three main skills I teach are: Awareness, Breath and Comfort. "ABC", handy to remember.
Sessions are about healing and training. The healing brings you up to present time and the training or growth builds your future. Healing and training are done at the same time. As we remove, we replace. My job is to have you feel as safe and relaxed as possible; our nervous system will become aware that the circumstances are opposite to the past event or ongoing situation.
At any time there is only one of six things going on. We have either seen, heard, tasted, smelt, touched or thought something. If we are triggered by any of these senses and don’t know how to handle the situation, we need help. In session I teach you how to notice the information your body is giving you and how to manage it. Managing, replacing ignoring, or pushing down. Thoughts settle once the system has relaxed.
Remembering to breathe seems basic yet many people report they hold their breath far too often. I will remind you to breathe, through your nose and if needed, to slow the breath. Taking a breath through your nose sends a message to the system that you are in charge, replacing the dissociation that may be happening.
